Over 85 Years of Powering Better Business

From Humble Beginnings to Industry Leaders in Commercial, Electrical Innovation and EV Charging Solutions

About Hobbs & Company

Hobbs & Company was founded in 1940 as Hobbs Electric, by Thomas and Althea Hobbs. By 1969, Robert Hobbs had taken over and incorporated the company under the name it is today. Originally, Hobbs & Company was just working on small maintenance, but has since grown exponentially.

In 2016, Edward Collison, a 25 year employee at Hobbs, took over as President. He later became the owner in 2019. Ed continues to move Hobbs & Company forward with taking on many projects in the Pharmaceutical & Healthcare realm, along with venturing into Electrical Vehicle Charging stations. Hobbs & Company continues to grow and take on new challenges, and will continue to expand as the electrical world changes!

In Memoriam: Bob Hobbs

With profound sadness and deep respect, I write to honor the memory of Bob Hobbs, a leader who transformed Hobbs & Co from humble beginnings into the dynamic enterprise it is today. Having been mentored by Bob for many years, I witnessed firsthand his unwavering dedication to excellence and innovation.

Bob took the reins of Hobbs Electric, founded by his parents Thomas and Althea, in 1969. Under his leadership, what began as a small maintenance operation evolved into Hobbs & Company, a name that became synonymous with quality and reliability in the electrical industry throughout the greater Philadelphia region.

His forward-thinking approach and commitment to growth laid the groundwork for our company's continued success.

I'll never forget Bob's mentorship during my early years at the company. His door was always open, and his guidance was instrumental in shaping not just my career, but the careers of countless others who passed through our doors. He had an remarkable ability to see potential in people and projects alike, nurturing both with equal care and attention.

What truly set Bob apart was his understanding that a company is more than just its bottom line. He fostered a family-oriented culture that continues to define Hobbs & Company today. His legacy lives on in our core values and the strong relationships we maintain with our clients and employees.

The electrical world is rapidly changing, but the foundation Bob built remains rock-solid. His vision of excellence, integrity, and innovation continues to light our path forward. While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy that will endure for generations to come.

I know he loved the photo below, in fact it was one of the few of him that I saw at his house. To all family, friends and colleagues, I’ll think of Bob (pictured top right, above the Philly dugout in a tan coat) as a gentleman – on and off the field.

Rest in peace, Bob.

Ed Collison
